The latest generation OZ Motorbike wheels were developed in the OZ research & development department in partnership with the Grand Prix motorcycle racing teams and reflect the experience gained in the racing world (on both two and four wheels) like Formula 1 and WRC. Heat treatment of the magnesium alloy, combined with the special controlled shot peening of the entire surface of the wheel, enhance the mechanical properties of the alloy itself, making it possible to achieve superior performance in terms of mass as well as inertia and rigidity. At the same wheel rigidity, mass and inertia are noticeably lessened, allowing for higher levels of performance.
OZ wheels also make use of major innovations tried and tested in Racing, such as (among the most important) the exclusive shape of the “C&U” two-section spokes and the geometric shape of the rim well with gradual shock absorption.
OZ wheels are designed using FEM (finite elements method) analysis and tested based on the strictest test standards in keeping with the OZ quality selection process. All wheels are 100% tested using liquid penetrants, eddy current testing and ultrasound.
The wheels are also protected with an anticorrosive treatment combined with a special painting process developed for F1 that aids in providing maximum protection against corrosion with the lightest-weight surface treatment.
